Rehab & Renovation
Feeling energetic? Want to tackle that "handyman special"? This is certainly a potentially cost effective way to get the home you want for a price you are willing and able to pay, but, again, the homework is important. Is the structure sound? Is the rehab cosmetic or systemic? How much of the work can you do yourself vs. what will you have to pay in contractor fees? Can the work be completed before you need to move in? Will the purchase price and cost of rehab fall within the market value of the finished home? (Always think about re-sale ) Do you want to build the renovation costs into your mortgage? Consider all these things before you make an offer on any house in need of T.L.C. or you may live to regret your decision.
If you have vision and take the time to do it right, buying a "fixer-upper" can be a fun and totally rewarding experience.
